Oh wow. What a cool map! Lovely architecture and quite diverse opportunities for fun fights, vertical, horizontal, close range, at distance, etc. The map would rock so much on RA3 or CA! It's on the spirit of lloydmdm2, as the reviewer stated, but this is WAY better! A keeper!

The only way I was able to get the BFG involved rocket jumping from the platform with the invisibility, facing away from the stairs and to the left, and landing on the ledge in front of the first panel to the left of the middle stained glass window.

@SW12: Hmm very interesting indeed. I'll try the Mods out sometimes :). It would be great to have swords & arrows. it would be like ''Gladiators''.

@FragTastic: As a matter of fact, there was this one mod with a medieval theme I tried called Maldavria (www.quakeunity.com/downloads/33), but it didn't work for me.

For CTF gametypes, I found a medieval themed mod called Art of War www.quakeunity.com/file=417(themed and quoted from the book) that is a mod where you can build buildings, and lead an army to victory! You command a clantype against another while collecting gold to build buildings to unlock special classes.

I would like a mod for Q3 that would have weapons like swords, bows&arrows, muskets (17-18century) and axes. Have bases you can build, monsters like in HUNT you can customize armed to the teeth with any weapon you please, and a special command menu. If I had the time to do this, as well as the knowledge on how, I would make this awesome mod.

@SW12: I think that's a brilliant idea. Having all the best medieval maps added to the mod and a little bit of new weapons for E.G: A Whip, Link Gun etc.. Nice idea SW12! :)

Has anybody found the BFG for this board? I didn't think it had one, but the Weapons icons lists it.

Hey Myth,
I just wanted to say how much I like your map of CF; this is one of the few, not created by the folks at ID, that I rate as excellent! Unlike so many other maps it is so easy to feel as if you are really someplace else when engaged in play. I suppose that is because you apparently expended so much sweat on the details, even in the awesomely authentic background scenery. I noticed, and also appreciate other details, like the din of the bell in the tower when it receives fire.
As you have guessed, I am a die-hard Quake III player and will always return to the game from time to time, ok, almost all the time. It never seems to lose its charm, especially when there are a more and more really quality maps like yours available that help add variety and rekindle an occasional waning interest. I know how much time and effort can be put into a creation that one is passionate about. I am an artist, and have done some skinning and made some other minor alterations to Quake III, solely for my own amusement, but nothing approaching the scale of your accomplishment.
I enjoyed finding the secrets, regeneration and haste, that you included in the map. There are still yet remaining secrets that I prefer to discover on my own. I wanted you to know that your work is measured as exceptionally meritorious by myself. Thanks for the immense fun!

I love these mini-reviews you have been undertaking Mark. Just a little comment in this particular case...
Don't necessarily assume that a designer has built a level with competitive play in mind as his/her primary concern.
In this case, the map show cases a year or so's work on a 2D texture set by the author and other non-competitive 'fun' features.
Don't misunderstand me, I'm not intending to jump all over you, but simply to point out that a map can still be 'good' even if it is not designed specifically for competition play; maps can be equally good, or indeed bad, in different ways.

the problem with visually rich maps is the irony in having to turn down the graphics settings in order to play in them - kinda defeats the purpose of having detail in the first place. My machine isnt the latest and greatest but neither is it ancient and i was suffering hits to my framerate navigating this level on my own. looks like a good map for large lan parties on very high end systems. if you cant have the good looks and the playability then your only playing on 1/2 a map in this day and age.

A HUGE map. Had to turn down my system junk to play this without serious lagging. I wish there were more weapons and bots didn't frequent the one area by the plasma gun, but still, this map is superb in terms of architecture and detail. Just for the effort...

9/10

Niiice... The level's architecture is certainly brilliant and oh boy with that lightning - very moody and it fits. It feels "cold" which is the way it's supposed to be in a castle-like area (you know what I mean if you've ever been to a castle). There's plenty of stuff to search for - plenty of locations to explore and it plays well with enough bots although the bots seemed to concentrate around one small area.

The kind of map I'd like to see more often. It's different from most levels. Huge... yes...quite. I can't say, yet maybe, it's more fun to explore/play than ancient archipeloga... that's an old map...why compare really...

I think I've found all secrets... I like to explore maps, and some sp gaming every now and then, so .. I'm familiar with the "typical" ;) hiding places and tricks mappers use... (I've also played many co-op missions in this .. other "popular" once upon a time, game...)
Though they're well hidden, and most people will find them over the many days/months etc they play this map.. some won't bother their loss ;p

Looks like it's a decent map for large games...It runs "ok" on my ancient rig. (very...)
Definitaly a keeper for theme/looks though.

Excellent map, very nice. Some hints of Lloyd's "Ancient Archipelago" map, maybe, with the roof areas; and some nice atmospheric indoor/basement areas, too. Very nice work all round. I give it a 9.

I sometimes assume that everyone knows how to use a grappling hook =o

I ran the map in the Osp mod, hence the grappling hook. There isn't a grappling hook within the map.

Great level! I found 4 secret areas :D Reminds me of Spain for some reason.... I love the architecture

To use the grappling hook open the console by pressing [`] (below [Esc]) (you need to have enabled cheats) and type "give grappling hook" (you need to have enabled cheats). The grappling hook can be equipped by pressing 0.

I like this map - it's great! Amazing athmosphere like in the hallway with the green rays of light...
One secret found purr ;)
Newbie me only got one problem: where can i find the grappling hook (been searching high and low) or do have to "activate it" somehow?
Thank you in advance for your advice on my grappling problem.

I was amazed at the size of this level. It truly is a work of art.

Maybe not so great gameplay wise but it's so huge I spent plenty of time exploring it.

Perhaps the longest time ever taken to build a map. In the end though an excellent release. M is a little modest here, it should be pointed out that not only has he produced a top notch level but also created an entire gothic texture set to paint it with. There is considerable talent here.
