Can't quite get the thrill in this map. The image promise huge potential but it flops imo. First, hard to get weapons. Second, RG totally dominates the map and it should be number one objective when respawning. RL is totally useless. Third, connectivity is poor. The two main areas are connected though some annoying passages. Why not adding a teleport connecting the two sides? You cannot easily move from bottom to up. Finally, you will struggle for ammo too.

Design is great for sure. But gameplay is lacking imo.

@brazzjazz : You may have 16bit colour settings for your graphics card. Try setting the following on the console:
r_colorbits 32
r_texturebits 32
r_textureMode "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR"

You will then need to use vid_restart to see the changes. It will not remove all the banding, but it may help.

You may also want to check cl_renderer "opengl2" (instead of opengl1) is enabled.

Intriguing map - talk about stylish... I have noticed the terrible color banding though, both in the screenshots here and in my own Q3A versions. Is it the texture compression or what is to blame here?

Is it possible to CTF-ize this map? Would be a very awesome CTF map if done... I would play that for hours, maybe days, on end.

I haven't noticed this map before but this is amazing. I wish I noticed it sooner to have some fun but sadly I haven't had the time to test it out since my Q3 was deleted ):. Once I find it I will test it out.

Ostentatiously Organometallic is an outstanding map from Laerth, textures are used nicely to make the geometry design. Lighting is really good to produce those shadows and the light balance is just perfect. Item placement is thought out well with the items in good locations on the four floors and the connectivity is also very good. The architecture is fabulous as well as the gameplay.

This map is definitely a keeper, 9.5/10.

This is a a map masterpiece. Everything about this map is great. The architecture is done very well and the look of the map is excellent. It runs very well, bots playing at their best, and gameplay is great. Like what Demo said this map is a keeper for a lot of people. I will have this map in my collection for a long time. I hope to see more great work from you laerth. I enjoyed playing this map.

Outstanding

10/10

Thanks for the kind words guys, and thanks for the review Demo. As much as I may have inspired nunuk, his maps and his organizing of the Geocomps inspired me to take my own shot at pushing the boundaries of fps level design. Its a great thing that we can inspire each other in turn :)

I stand corrected.

Altough, he said so himself about this map being inspired by the maps produced from both comps.

Oh well, what does it matter eh?

to be honest, i think that the geocomp concept was directly inspired by laerth's maps, back in 2000.

laerth was one of the first mappers that had an amazing sense of architecture, putting textures in a secundary position compared to brushwork.

looking backwards, it just struck me so much, his two first maps were one of the main reason why i got into mapping myslef during two amazing years.

it looks amazing on the screenshot.

will download that beauty asap.

this is an outstanding map, the brushwork is fantastic.

The gameplay is good too, the no fall damage works really well here.

Geocomp2 revisited! ;)

Good job laerth, it's not hard to see you were inspired by the geocomp styled maps.

You saw, you heard, you conquered. ;)
