My earliest experience with Deathmatch was in Doom 2 on the level this is based on. A friend and I would play on a couple of 486's over a serial cable he built. LOL. For some reason we always (or mostly) played this and Super2.wad.
When it came to making this I wish I had spent more time figuring out how to do some more complicated architecture in Q3 Radiant. I was trying to keep it simple because I didn't want to lose that Doomish atmosphere. Coming back to it now some of the stuff is pretty damn chunky looking though. I was also a little too married to including EVERYTHING in the map. I probably could have gotten a little more creative on my layout changes as well. Maybe I'll get ambitious and go for a do over one of these days... Maybe. I hope so. I've been having a lot of fun with Q3 again.

The map had the beggining area changed. I don't really think that was needed. Also I think someone ought to make an E1M1 remake. OOh, Or what about E1M8?? Yeah, and have the music with it too?

I have those models, except of Revenant, somewhere on CD's at home..

I played against Sonic & Super Mario bots (downloaded from polycount, too) :)

Btw - there was a cool site - "deja-review" with a maps like this, but it seems to be dead.

Anyone knows similar other site?

Anton, thanks a lot for your comments! I am glad to read that you are enjoying the map. As far as the bots go I notice Sarge and Uriel tend to navigate the level the best. If you really want a nostalgia feel swing by polycount and grab the imp, arachnatron, and revenant bots they have up for download. I also really recomend the Generations Arena mod. ;) You are very welcome for the map!

Exellent map!

I like to play a remakes of such classic things. I really love to play old game's themes and when it's converted to another engine - it brings so much fun!

A great nostalgia! I started to play PC games from Doom2 - so I relly love a levels like this!

Played it with two nightmare bots - exellent.

But... - they always fight almost in one area (those with green/blue torches). And always trying to get ligtning gun and invisibility. No other goodies. But it still very good gameplay.

9/10, and thanks for the map!

Meh, its my first go at mapping, and probably my last. I don't see how the reveiw was bias. Its not like Pho came out and called it the gratest thing since sliced bread. As he said I just made the map on my own, I knew of Generations Arena, my map is based on Doom2 so I presented it to them and they liked it. This is just a level I always wanted to see in Quake3. Now it is.

Either way thanks for downloading it.

For the record, Wirehead did not commission this map, What!? built it on his own, presented it to us, and we liked it. How is that biased?

The machinegun makes more sense with the Generations mod, thats why it was included.

The Gantlet is an open map in a lot of areas but it is from Doom so I can't say much about that. Bots play excellent. They seem to put up a challenge. Item placement I thought was ok. The machinegun was a little pointless to put in though. Not a keeper in my book but Doom fans would most likely like it. Great idea. I give it a solid 6/10.
