There should have been an endless amount of those weird curve structures all over to make the map more harder to die when you fall off one.

Bots and patches (curves) don't mix without a lot of work. They get confused and make bad judgement calls.

A very impressive and beautiful map, but why the hell Klesk spends most of his time being in "the wrong place"?

WOW. From a design standpoint, this is the most amazing level I've seen in a LONG TIME. It's one thing to make a level that reflects real life (right angles, boxy rooms, hallways, etc.), but to make one that is complete fantasy is a godsend. This makes the game Alice seem like it was put together with the Blake Stone engine! :) Quake is a game, not real-life. If I want real-life, I'll go outside. If I want fantasy, this level will become my home away from home! Keep 'em coming!

This got deleted pretty quick from my drive. I thought I had a reasonably high end system, but this map had it grinding to a stuttering halt every so often - maybe it's a bot problem as Kell suggests. But it's just too difficult to navigate. It's no fun having continually to watch your step like this.

It would be nice to have a map that preserved the cool aesthetic but was easier to run around on.

very nicely done, RRROOOAAARRR ...

God of Emptiness actually plays pretty well =). Better than the q3tourney against Uriel that uses the same sort of volumetric fog.

This level is definitely a keeper for the style, ambiance, and very 'cutting-edge' feel. However, even though its gonna stay on my hard drive for i while, i have to admit that (like the iD tourney lvl) the gameplay, while not bad at first, grows repetetive after a while. =)

Your lvl is worth it just 4 the cool factor tho, so i'm gonna keep it just the same. Nicely Done, and its great to see people thinking in such new directions. =)

This is a nice one. Although I keep falling off all the time. Great work!

The RG seems a bit "hidden away" in a dark corner. Is this intentional? It's kinda easy to miss.

I had a steady 60 fps on my PIV 1.6 GHz w/ GeForce 2 GTS at 1024x768 in "full eyecandy mode". Very nice.

Octovus: Yeah it is H2SO4 the one with no fog.

Well now that we're talking about changes, how about changing the shape of the teleporters? -no complains-

You might release a non-fog version as well; I believe the conversion is fairly simple, and there's an example of it in another Lvl review - A map called H2S04, I think. He made a non-foggy version so us low-end peeps could play it too. Be cool if you could do that. And of course, I wouldn't complain about the lack of atmoshpere which I doubt would happen anyways, from the screenshots :-p

You got it pjw, I've been planning a CTF version of this for a while!

The TA vortex thingies lend themselves perfectly to having separate incarnations with team-coloured fog...several people have told me they'd like this map without fog but I think it would lose a lot of the atmosphere.

papri-K: ". . . red fog version . . ."

Hmmmn. A red fog version, a blue fog version, a couple of flags and a few teleporters . . . heh. :)

from the geometrical point of view, it's the most ambitious map I've ever seen, and I've seen some...believe me.

I don't know if it's really playable in the sense I use to, but perhaps it's just a matter of try to work some hours on it.

waitin' for the red fog version...

(I don't understand why Kell didn't catch/remark on this??)

You're absolutely right, I didn't spot the error until playing with a mate, after submitting the review. I tend to load maps from the console; it's a bad habit for reviewing and I'll remember in future. Apologies.

Other than that, I just have to say it was a real pleasure to get the opportunity to review this creature; I wrote about twice as much as is published, but Tig and Mandog understandably edited it for brevity :)

Octovus - my machine is the lowest of the low-end for Q3 and it runs at around 20 fps; not playable, but navigable. It's only bots spawning in that cripples it.

Coming from Nunuk, "interesting" is praise indeed! ( I thought "Distonic" was wonderful, Nunuk! ) The .arena file is a bit screwed, sorry - I'll fix it as soon as I can ( it was my first attempt at one after all )...although now it's saying there's a patch for that? Immense thanks to whoever did that, then! It's not just my first map for Q3, it's my first map for anything ever...inspired by the Morbid Angel song of the same name.

Cheers guys...

Phil--Load it from the console (use ~ to pull it down, type "/map hodq3dm1" (without the quotes), then hit enter). It's worth seeing. :)

Octovus--fair enough. :)

pjw...when I wrote the reviews, I just use /map. Arguably I should have checked if it worked from the menu, but I have so many custom maps to page through - and every single page of custom map levelshots takes ages to load on my comp. Kell may be in a similar situation...

Although the playability is not that great, and it takes a toll on my weak system, the map is very unique and interesting. Gets a 7. GJ!

Pretty cool and different map--I had only looked at screenies up until now. But . . .

I hate to tell you this, but your arena file is hosed (should be map "hodq3dm1", not map "hodq3dm1.bsp")--the map shows up in the skirmish menu sans screenshot and won't load. I'd suggest uploading a fixed pk3 ASAP before you get too many more downloads. (I don't understand why Kell didn't catch/remark on this??)
