There are a lot of nice thing going on in this level... The bot play however is pretty shallow. The player movement is a bit 'pale'. For me these are the 2 most important things in a level. Movement/flow and bots... I'm a fan of this kind of textures but it is not enough for me to keep this one...

@SW12: Hmmm ... Raiders of the Lost Ark as a Quake III level? Could work; but Kommissar, it's been over 10 years since I last made a level (Hogwarts). I now use my spare time making movies. I've become far too "rusty" at map making. Someone else will have to take up the baton.

LOL . . . There was no flying carpet in the movie. I just added the carpet to spice things up. It gives players the option to ride the carpet to the BFG. I was concerned that some players might think a flying carpet violated the "reality" of the movie. But then, there were no lightning guns, plasma guns, or rail guns in the movie; so why not include a flying carpet if it adds some fun?

@Comic Relief: I liked the flying carpet, although it seems somewhat stereotypical. What movie are you referring to exactly? I don't remember any flying carpets in the movie Casablanca.

Maybe you ought to make your next map themed on an Indiana Jones movie. It would be cool if someone uploaded a map with Raiders of the Lost Ark in mind.

Glad to hear people are still downloading this level. When I made this, I wasn't sure if players would like the addition of a flying carpet (pure fantasy, not part of the movie) added to a movie-themed map. Any comments, yea or nay?

Somewhere between BadMonkey's review and Kell's you will find my opinion of this offering. If you are looking for perfection and lots of detail then you will need to look elsewhere. If you seek a new place to have some fun, one that contains some interesting features, like the magic carpet, then you may want to investigate this one for yourself. Better than average overall IMO. Oh, BTW, they found the moon isn't composed of cheese after all, Ping Floyd, not even the Dark Side of the Moon. (sorry, I couldn't resist)

Certainly one of the better movie-themed maps I have seen, it really has some nice ideas. The basic texture is a bit bland but there are so many little goodies, you can't help but like it.

Notice the notes on the piano change as you move back and forth in front of it, nice attention to details.

P.S. Fix that cheesy Moon!

A map named after my favorite movie? Had to download and try. The movie tie-in is a little thin, just some place names - not one pic of Ingred Bergman anywhere! But the gameplay is great, fast and smooth. The map has a nice layout and it is great to see something other than a space platform or Gothic Castle, Dungeon, or Abbey. A refreshing change, ComicRelief!

This level is way cool! Awesome details adhearing to movie, nice layout of weapons, and what a refreshing idea of making a magic carpet ride to the BFG. This level makes for some fun gameplay no matter how many players. You would have to be a 'Fool' not to love this level! Not sure what you've been smoking Kell, but you need to give it another try.... Until then, 2 tacos 99 cents!

I sure as heck don't, Comic Relief. It's nice to see some fun maps released for lower end systems...anyone in the same boat should check out "The Garden" which is about three reviews below this one. Another fun level that's not going to hit your system too hard, either.

Thanks for the comments folks! Glad to see so many people are having fun with the level. It makes the long hours seem worthwhile. I see there was some concern about lack of detail in brushes and textures. I'll admit I could have spent more time working on the textures, however the simplified construction (brush work) was intentional. I wanted to keep the polygon count low, to keep the frame-rate up. I don't know ... maybe by now everyone has fast systems to support detailed brushwork? Again, thanks for the comments.

Some one earlier said "style". Spot on. The picture caught my eye so I downloaded and I am very pleased with the map on all respects. Nice work Comic Relief.

Well worth your time!

Why does this level designer call himself "Comic Relief" when everyone knows that's the name of my fabulous charity? It's not fun. It's not funny.

>The most obvious problems are the textures. Almost the entire level is blanketed by a pale, monochromatic texture

I totally disagree there and you're missing the whole point of the level. The author obviously didn't use those textures because of a lack of skills or taste, he used em to give the map a unique look. And he achieved it pretty well.

I just played this map in amazement, I just walked through it without bots, but this has got to be one of my fav maps ever, just because of the style

I liked the flow of it and the creative effort. It isn't a huge map where you can get easily lost, and it has a lot of imagination. I would like to see the stairways being a little wider. I like that carpet... Kell says it is slow, but isn't that the point of it? So it is actually harder to reach the bmg? People can shoot you down easier...

Sure, the texture could be deeper on the objects, but it does not take away from fun fragging.

-this could be the start of a beatiful friendship...

An excellent level with lots of unusual details. Many levels out there seem to be similar to one-another. This one has some truely original details, that wen't copied or even inspired by other levels.

Listen, Sweetheart, this map is A-OK in my books. Sure, it's a little on the weak side, but what isn't these days? If you're smart, you'll take it and like it. Nice reviews, too. A little too cute for my liking, but what isn't these days? Here's fragging with you, kid...
