Some people take time to get going, others wonder about and let things happen on the way. tehSandwich is both of these. Lucky for all of us, the result is a solid Deathmatch / Team DM release - even if the intention was originally a Tourney.
Visually the map starts with a traditional id Software Tech style similar to Vertical Vengeance (q3tourney4) and then expands to a more contemporary theme. Great use of base game textures keeps both the file size low and the aesthetics clearly within the Q3A realm.
Gameplay wise, the level is large and enjoyable with the right balance of 6 to 8 players. A Team DM of 2 players per side feels sparse. Make it 3 or 4 players per side and the map comes together a lot more, just a little low on ammo. Due to the size of the map, it can take a while to navigate from side to side - no real surprise there as it is a large map. Combat can consist of up close encounters but the majority are over a mid range distance.
Bots have no navigation issues locating the action. They will focus more on the inner spaces which will leave the larger outer area's a little thin on action.
A very well made first Q3A release. Keen to see more from this author.
Note: Originally released as part of Map-Center's Quake 3 25th Anniversary Pack.
