Created as homage to the upcoming Doom3, Oberon2 seeks to be a dark, gloomy, industrial-tech base on a lunar outpost. Immediately, this atmosphere ruined by missing shaders and textures in the map. Nothing quite like grey boxes to spoil the aesthetic feel of a map. This is unfortunate because otherwise, the map looks very good, save for an out-of-place p0rn pic.
At 27 megs, you'd expect a huge map, and while the map is large with many wide open areas, the massive size of this zip file is due mostly to many custom textures. There isn't even one custom sound included. The author recommends only four players, however this felt somewhat understaffed to me so I tried eight. It was at this point I found that the author only included six spawn points. The bots did play well, but item placement and availability is sub-par. Machine guns rule the day, and, truthfully, the map almost feels like it should be used in some singleplayer game. It shows that the author was the only Beta Tester.
While interesting to look at and aesthetically designed well, this map just doesn't "have it" when it comes to gameplay. I see no compelling reason to download this map as it is.
