we used to have this level in high rotation in the excessive mod, so there is a lot of nostalgia (something I am not often prone to) here for me. I'm about to give it another whirl for old time's sake

Sense of scale in this is flabergasting me in virtual reality. Added it to our default maprotation for Quake3Quest VR.

This map reminds me of a tighter version of East Berlin Rooftops ...Of course that map was released 5 years after this one, so I suppose I should say East Berlin Rooftops reminds me of a more open AEon's Pyramid. Regardless, its good. Great atmosphere and very enjoyable gameplay. AEon has a knack for putting together fun maps! I'll be breaking this back out at a LAN party for sure.

Nice design. Probably best suited for CA/RA3. Otherwise it's just too open. MG is too lethal here. It's also extremely tempting to camp in the RG. Should have been placed in a more accessible place.

Please mind my back then noobish comment, it's been a while since I've played this map and I started again just a few hours ago and I have to say, this has to be my favourite out of your list AEon, this map is incredible. Yes it may be small but it's just so enjoyable. I always rocket jump on those pillars and just knock everyone down with my rails and I especially love having access to the top of the pyramid too, it's a great camping spot. Brilliant gameplay, item placement is okay I guess but the atmosphere is incredible, that's what I love about this map the most!

You have to encrypt the pk3s and make them read only to make the maps playable in quake live - I can't offer a link, maybe google can help you.

This map is great for instagib..especially in the Corkscrew Mod, it's good with the grappling hook.

Only recently played the map again... for some reason I still like this map, if I do say so myself. Presently, of all my released maps the favorite one. Though aedm7 (soon to be released) is also up there.

My jaw dropped as soon as i entered this level. It is F-U-K-K-I-N' H-U-G-E.

I LOVE q3dm17! I LOVE Instagib! I LOVE Techno-Egyptian themes! I LOVE huge wide-open levels! I LOVE this map!

Commander Keen,

yo you are probably right... I built the map in about 2 weeks... and after a while I had had it with lighting...

I see there are some more 'instagib' fans out there :)

The only complaint I would have on this one is it's a bit over-bright. The sky-box's shader script could have been tweaked a bit. Other than that this map is well worth the DL and HDD space. Lots of jump pad action very well placed items and nice open flow. Great job!

Jose E.: Some maps don't show up in skirmish menu. If you put map-aepyra.pk3 in the baseq3 folder, it should work; type /map aepyra in the console. Then you can add bots using the menu by hitting escape.

Onto the map: GREAT looking! Nice and open and I wanted to take a vacation here. Doesn't feel cut off to me. A bit open, can easily dominate with RG. Quad is clasically placed. Glass tops of pyramids are very nice. Basically, this plays better than average and looks, imo, very nice. 8/10 (I would give 8.5, but...)

Mr-Gibs,

I playtest all my maps in 1280x1024x32 with the texture quality all the way up. I could not see much (if at all) of a difference between the original tgas and the jpgs I then used. So this should not be an issue.

Nice use of the Hexagon environment map! Very sorry to hear that you felt it necessary to reduce the image quality to make the download smaller. :(

The Serious Sam comparision is quite interesting. Indeed I loved the design in Serious Sam. Alas matching that level of 'leetness' is quite difficult :)
