@raspatan For sure the level would have more balance swapping the Quad to MH, or even RA. It would also bring the conflict interval down from every couple of minutes to every 25-35 seconds.
There's scope to swap some weapons as well and introduce more varied fights. As it is with the Q3 GL being rather toned down from the Q1 equivalent, its less of a major player on the level here and most fights are dominated by the RL & LG.
All that said, swapping the quad would then highlight the level's next constraint that limits its suitability for balanced duel - The room-corridor-room layout. With the exception of the main atrium, interactions between players are constrained by limited and simplistic connectivity between areas. The level shines best with overpowered weapons and quad-buffed players smashing together explosively in an unbalanced (but fun) chaotic FFA where people pop randomly out of teleporters in front of you. Definitely not one for serious play, not sure you could make enough changes to balance it while keeping the 'feel' of the original.

@raspatan : In QuakeWorld days, we would often play this map with Quad disabled. 2 or 3 players only, and they felt like something was missing. In games with Quad enabled, you needed to control the Quad. People would double rocket jump to it, then run the spawn points. The lost health would be minor compared to the frags you could pick up.

I think you may be correct about changing the Quad to a MegaHealth to balance the game, but you would also lose the chaos that the Quad makes. Sometimes that imbalance is what makes a map or at least makes it fun to play.

Great map, but for such a small tourney map, MH would be much much better than a quad. Otherwise it can quickly snowball into an unstoppable death stream. @Foo what do you think?

Thanks for the review! Always loved the original and wanted a Q3 version to play with friends.
Someone also asked for higher definition textures, and since there was already a replacement HD set by Moon[Drunk] for the original Q1 Ultrav, I dropped them in and recompiled. That version can be found here: ws.q3df.org/map/ultrav_hd/
