@FragTastic: Yeah, I didn't want to watch it because of all the violence and gore, and I am only 14 years old :P. But I can play Quake because the graphics are not intense, and the blood and gore isn't too bad. Pretty much, I can't watch Saw, but I could play Quake since I was 8 :D. I'm sure Saw enthusiasts will enjoy though :).

@FragTastic: Wow, nice work! You seem pretty confident with this map, I'm looking forward to seeing it :). I haven't played UT2004, but I have played the first one, and Unreal Tournament 3. I also haven't seen Saw either, but I have heard a lot about it. If it is a good a map as this, then it is going to be an awesome map :D.

I won a mapping contest once and the rest I either came 5th or 3rd. If I had to say which is my best map, It would have to be the Saw map I'm currently working on

@Kyall: Very well then :). I'm currently making a Saw themed map it's kinda similar to this although it's not in a house. There will be staircases that move and dark rooms with traps and the TV what Jigsaw speaks in. I got a good feeling it's going to be good.

@FragTastic: The gameplay was heaps fun to me :D. Not only was the bot support very good, but the map is fun with with a fair few mods, such as Hunt, Excessive Plus, Freeze Tag, and Team Arena. It was also good because the house just looks like a two story house, but it has the stairways outside descending into the ground, which leads to the torture chamber, which is below the house. The only flaw would be that it might be considered a bit gimmicky, or it has some awesome features which would make you stop and look at them, which would get you killed.

This is an awesome map. It is my favorite haunted house map. Everything about it is excellent. The layout of the map is great, and the fog outside gives it a realistic haunted theme to it. The skybox is excellent, matching the theme of the level, and the textures are awesome and realistic. The house is very well designed, and I liked how it had what can be assumed as a torture chamber, down in the basement. The gameplay is excellent. If you want to make it look extremely realistic and fun, put the Hunt Mod on, and play on Save The Universe mode. It calls for some crazy gameplay, with heaps of enemies, making it look like everyone is undead, or with only a few enemies, making it feel creepy as you are surprised that you can't see any enemies, then all of a sudden, the odd enemy or two comes out of nowhere and starts attacking you. Either way, it is very fun. Awesome job, definitely a keeper. 10/10.

Ok, I wouldn't have thought this was gonna be a popular comment buuuuuut, I LOVE THIS MAP!!!! Looking at the other posts I kinda see this is a popular comment however and so kinda superflous. I know it's not yer standard DM form, I know it's really weirdly laid out for a q3 map, but it's just soooooo different. It just, somehow, makes it really interesting. Like a few of the other posts say, it's a lot of fun.

Definitely a very nice looking map. It has a lot of originality which is nice break from the standard gothic theme. The only thing that held me back from giving a 10 is the lack of gameplay. From an artistic pt of view the map is near perfect, however it is hurt by the lack of weapons. Anyhow, good job on the map, i look forward to more of your releases.

I wish there were more innovative maps for Quake3 like this one, as the usual Gothic theme is becoming tiresome. The foggy graveyard setting is absolutely brilliant, but I think it could be further enhanced if you created an ominous dark sky, illuminated by a full moon with clouds passing over it and flashes of lightning accompanied by intermittent claps of thunder(use sounds from lightning gun). The open plot where you fall in, to emerge in the basement beside the rocket launcher is superb,I liked the spikes trap, where I was impaled, as it was different from the usual lava snares, etc.Personally, I would prefer more outdoor action to occur, but this does not detract from the overall high quality of the map. Great map, worth the download time.

Score: 8/10

Below are a few suggestions of ways to improve the current level or ideas that you may wish to implement in your eagerly anticipated new levels.

  1. Respawns.
a)Why not create a respawn spot on a dully lit lane that leads to an entrance to the cemetery that directly faces the house, make this the main gate, you could use a stone wall with Quake's Gargoyles on either side and a fiercesome looking gate, that creeks open as you push it.

b)Another idea for a respawn spot would be below some of the numerous tombstones, so that when you respawned you could clamber out of your grave, thereby creating the impression to onlookers that you were returning from the dead.

  1. Architecture.
a)Why not build a mausoleum or burial crypt, etc in the graveyard as this might add even more atmosphere to the already creepy surroundings. Include difficult to reach powerups in some of these tombs, and one of your inventive traps; this may also prevent all the action from taking place in the main house.

  1. Models.
a)A model I recently downloaded (available from Polycount fits wonderfully into the environment you have created. The name of the skin is Deadeye, he looks like bones, except is dressed in an old cowboy outfit and has glowing eyes and a smouldering cigar stuck in his mouth. He also carries an extra weapon (only for effect) which he uses in his humourous gestures. The bad news is there is no bot support for this skin, could this be remedied?

b)would it be possible to produce a skin for the character Orb that resembles a gruesome, fiery eyed hound, surely this would make us all look behind even more often while playing your level.

  1. Sound.
a)Why not include some whining wind.

5.Sky.

a)The last idea concerns the sky. Consider including in the sky for a short period that amazing natural phenomena: St. Elmos Fire (Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis).

I hate to say this, but 6 outta 10 for me. I have to give it the credit's due before I complain about it. First and foremost, this level is a piece of freakin art. (literately hanging on the walls)Beautiful. A huge break from the bland goth cathedral rut Q3 has gotten in. It's a treat to walk through and enjoy. And for the music: I've found it best to go in alone, turn the effects off and crank the music. Very kewl.

Now, to the downsides. Item placement was very sparce. Unless you like the power-ups. One RL for a level that big is, well, hard to come by shall we say. Oh, and for those inclined to play against bots, forget it. On my P II 450, 128 MG RAM, and VooDoo 3 card, by the time I added the 10 bots required to fill the level with an exciting amount of action, it was lag city. Even with all the nice things turned off. Like detailed sky, falling brass, etc. In the building was a little dark. But that can be fixed with a little tweakin. No biggie.

Overall, take it for what it is. A thing of beauty. I wouldn't really try to have a serious DM on it.

Very nice visually. I think this map has the best use of fog I've seen, except for that one place where you can see thru the grate, its like the fog is suspended above the grate. Other than that, some nice and interesting mapping going on here.

Amazing! After downloading the "Manor" map from fileplanet and being fairly dissapointed by it I came to Planetquake and found this! Can you say atmosphere? Good, cos thats what you get here. Not only eye-candy but fitting monster sounds and music too.

My only real gripe with the map is that the rocketlauncher is at the bottom of the mansion, and when you respawn way up in the house it takes a while to get to. Like the way you put the grenade-launcher under the stairs; good for getting that guy whos been pecking you with his machinegun :)

Mucho creativity. My only minor complaint is that the open spaces outside are a little dead (LOL), meaning that little action is likely to occur outside unless you're playing against a bunch of claustrophobics. A girlie-man could just wander among the stones, picking dead daisies, and not be compelled to die at anyone's hands. But I do dig this map. The degree of detailing is a little uneven in places, but no big whup. This one looks good and plays good.Next one Gummo, promise me you'll stick a a curvy young female vamp in the basement, waitin for my shotgun totin' self to amble on in. I want to be converted!

I liked the concept of this map but it seems a bit rushed out the door. This map needed more detail but even that is excusable. My biggest complaint was that it was way to bright for what the author was trying to achieve. It just wasn't scary enough and was a bit too "boxy" for my tastes.

If the map wasnt so rushed, and maybe darker lighting and a few more torches here and there could of added to the overall atmosphere to the map.

I loved the custom sounds wich i would love to use in a future map. Th outside was good too. I know the author could of made the map a lot better judging by what i see in the map, he knows what he's doing.

Wow! Certainly not your average map! I love the theme, and the "feel" it gives you as you're playing. It would be great if Gummo would put some more work into this map and make it more refined. He has a great imagination, and it worked out fine.

The only drawback(?) to this map IMO is the fact that you want to stop and look at the surroundings instead of playing. :o) This, as you know, gets you killed. heh heh.

I don't think I would play this in any tournament type atmosphere for the simple fact that I have too much fun listening to the music and looking at the hanging rotted meat. :o)
