Hogwarts
Hogwarts: A Quake III Level by Comic Relief (AKA: Ken Hull) **email removed** ===Synopsis=== Large DM level, for 5 to 8 players. This level was created as a celebration of the Harry Potter books and movies. Emphasis is on exploration rather than playability. Lots of secrets to discover. Supports bots. Compile time on an Athlon 1.2GHz with 500 MB: 7 hrs 29 mins. NOTE: This level requires a somewhat high-end system to play! ===Secret passages and rooms=== Gryffindor common room (see book 1). Passage to the Mirror of Erised (see book 1). The Chamber of Secrets (see book 2). 2 passages to the village of Hogsmeade (see book 3). The house-elves kitchen (see book 4), The Room of Requirement (see book 5). Slytherin common room (a daring leap of faith). Passage to roof of west building (you're on your own). ===Musings about Hogwarts=== As much as was practical, I made the level roughly match the books and movies. Sometimes there were conflicts between them. I had orignally planned to make the level exactly match the descriptions in the books, but I soon realized that would require an impossibly large level. So I modified things a bit. I included the village of Hogsmeade as a sort of secret level within a level. The village was the most fun to build, since I did not have to match any movie set (but the village should appear in the 3rd movie, coming next June). I included the common rooms for all 4 houses, even though only 2 are described in the first 5 books. There are no respawn points within Hogsmeade; you'll have to find one of the secret passages to it. All fireplaces are teleporters (remember the floo network?). The Mirror of Erised is also a teleporter. The 2 secret passages to Hogsmeade also have teleporters, to save time. I took the liberty of implying house alignments for professors Flitwick and Sinistra. The name "Sinistra" sounds like someone associated with Slytherin, but a professor of astronomy, my favorite hobby, ought to be a very studious sort... a Ravenclaw type. (J.K., if you're reading this, PLEASE don't align Sinistra with Slytherin! If you would be so kind as to align the good professor with Ravenclaw, I promise to ... uh ... eat all my vegetables and clean my room every day.) ===Image Credits=== Paintings by various 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th century artists: Vermeer, Rembrandt, Raphael, Limbourg brothers, Ingres, Grünewald, Fragonard, Dürer, Velázquez and Cézanne. Winter Games: The novelty of skiing and skating in Q3. Check www.planetquake.com/lvl for my levels, as well as levels by many others. And in case you're wondering, I chose the name "Comic Relief" to reflect my Q3-playing abilities. Besides, most of the existing player names were a bit much. ;=) ===Copyright and such=== This custom Quake III level is not a commercial product. It was created by Ken Hull in 2003, to be freely shared among Harry Potter fans and Quake III players. No fee may be charged for this level.
