How about mortars that guard the Flag that shoot grenades at an angle so that they hit right at the flag if an enemy comes.

Yes, not entered, you are a genious caz you think like me!

you should have a Panzer on the German side and a T-34 on the other and they fire rockets at a specific point across the chasm like the sniper deck if there is one, when you push a button, or when you jump on the tank. have a giant Swastica on the floor of the German flag room and a giant Hammer and Schieth on the Soviet floor. Maybe a crashed Messershmidt Bf 109 in the canion. any way KEEP THE CABLE CAR idea its ingenious!

Fool, surely the Cable car crossing would force your team-mates to provide cover for you so you could escape with the flag, and so some real fierce battles would ensue. The designer could make the sides of the cable car high enough, so that if a player crouched he could avoid all but the most accurate of shots; but the opposing team could attempt to launch grenades into the car. The Cable car crossing could result in different strategies having to be employed and so make for interesting play: why not have two Cable cars.

Ok...I concede this is no longer about camel-camel. it's over. but if you DO build this WWII map....the cable car idea is technically stupid as far as gameplay goes. I don't want something that tells me how fast i can and can't go. The other consideration is....hello any idiot with a railgun and knows how to use the zoom button could take out the flag dude in one of those things. Bottom line is....a map like this has to either be 1) so FREAKIN georgous that no one cares about gameplay and just enjoys it for eye-candy OR 2) an imipressively new idea map that the gameplay rocks ass. you choose one or the other....can't have both I'm afraid. ;-)~

If you decide to make this level you should include large search lights as well and the sound of anti-aircraft guns. Maybe even add a light sprinkling of snow on the higher ground and the sound of wind whistling through the mountain tops. In the Flag room itself you could have an anthem playing in the background. If you construct a tunnel be sure and put shallow water in it and fog to reduce visibility.

Ooooh, make some tanks that fire rockets at the other side when you shoot a button! and maybe a tunnel to the other base that goes down thru da ravine! now that would be a good map make it a soviet T-34.yeah Baby

I might as well now theres nothing to do anymore here. as for the future of a cool WWII CTF map. Do it! i'd make one if Q3 Radiant was for Mac and the originality could make you a well known mapper.

FooL, no doubt, but, I did, afterall, find the idea very intriguing, I think the subject of such a map brings a lot of ideas and very crystal clear pictures in people's minds. I think, if anything, just having a whole new theme for a CTF map is the overwhelming opinion here which is a valid subject. I'm still very uninformed on how to create shaders, but maybe a dark map like what's being described wouldn't need anything but MAYBE some shiny surfaces. Again, as for discussion on Camel-Camel CTF, it's a first effort, haven't even mapped at all since this time last year! So, I really do love CTF and would like to make a most satisfactory CTF map, but with RA3 around the corner, maybe something for it as well. Appreciate the comments, again, very helpful!

KGB you should consider defecting, as now the 'Cold War' is over, we all have Condos in Florida and do nothing but play Q3 all day. If you have a Russian bot that looks anything like Hunter be sure to bring her with you as this is the new criteria for entry into the USA. By the way 'Big Brother' ain't watching American citizens anymore either, as Minx takes up too much of his time.

Good lord people, this si discussion for Camel-Camel by MeNtHoL here, now world war 2. Jeez. Anyway, MeNtHoL.....no matter what anyone else says, next map make it selectable from the map menu. You could create the best map know to man for CTF and I won't play it because I don't want to start a CTF game and then pull down the consol just to access your map. (I know I can add it to the map menu myself, but your getting the sense that I'm a lazy bastard huh?;-) Other than that, what everyone else said...connectevity and flow brother. Look at some kick ass CTF maps and get inspiration. (But DO make something different.)

Actually that is a great idea, I think... Dunno how the regular Q3 characters would look in such a thing, but it'd be really very interesting to see something like that!

Whether thats your name or you diddn't type one in, Thats still an excellent Idea. I loved Ancient Archepelago and would like to see I WW2 map I love WW2 stuff the gorge Idea is also great the cabel cars would have to be moving platforms with edited code to look like Cabel cars (he he too bad they dont make Q3 Radiant for Mac or Id make one like That)

Alternatively then, why not construct a WW2 German Castle map, set in which ever region they exist in. Going to check my Encylopedia.

'Not entered': 'I'd really like to see someone create a WW2 German Castle, with a Bavarian setting(...)'

Such thing is not existing -and has never been in existence. Misuse Your own history for such experiment. Maybe Fort Alamo with the Seven Dwarfes, John Wayne-Stroggo- and undead-Walt-Disney-bot in WW3?

Also, if you decided to create a WW2 arena, and wished to do a CTF map then why not link the bases by Cable Cars overlooking two huge precipices separated by a bottomless gorge. The ability to include moving platforms in Q3 would permit the developement of Cable Cars. Also, enable players to ride in or on top of Cars.

Menthol, for your first time working with Radiant, you did Ok. At least you tried to depart from creating the standard Gothic arena, and attempted something slightly different, for this I applaud you.

The map's layout is reasonble, but really just a large rectangle - albeit with different levels; so like many other CTF maps.

In my opinion the following features distinguish excellent maps from mediocre ones: good connectivity and the ability to see floors beneath and tiers above you generally makes for exciting gameplay, you should consider this type of layout for your next project eg: Tig's Den, and any Ztn maps.

Regarding the aesthetics of your arena, the choice of using the same stone throughout really did detract from the appeal of your map (look at how many Ztn uses), and replacing that ugly sky with an appropriate custom one would certainly help.

I'd really like to see someone create a WW2 German Castle, with a Bavarian setting similar to Lloyd Morris's Ancient Archipelago.

Well, at the start I was not impressed with the poor levelshot and absence of a .arena file, but when I got past all that, the small corridors and difficulty to find the flag were the final killers.

It has potential. 5/10

Always appreciate feedback, I've posted this map on a number of sites and have gotten so little commentary. I truly appreciate the comments which will help me in future map making. As posted in the dox with this map, it was my first time working with Q3 Radiant and creating a map for Q3A, so, got that down now, maybe I can concentrate on design and flow on my next effort! :)

I'll put it this way: The bots understood it better than me. They could at least find the flagroom....I managed to get to the middle before getting hopelessly lost in the enemy base. It looked fine, interesting, and the small flag room might have worked well, if only it came with a map.

You have potential MeNtHol, but the combination of small rooms and twisted layout is confusing, make more expanded or less complicated maps in the future. (See the GoblinCastle CTF map, Fileplanet, for an extreme example of this map's problem) =)

Happy Fraggin! Octovus

Not really commenting on this map, but I see a theme with Q3 maps... yellow sky... yellow sky... yellow sky. Can't you put some kind of color filter on the sky?
