This map is heaps fun! I'm not one to complain about the flaws of the map, as you are the only person so far to make a Hogwarts map. Definitely think a Diagon Ally map would be fun. Textures, cool hiding places and secrets for this map are awesome! 10/10

@Comic Relief: Maybe do you suppose when you get some free time, you could make a map based on Bikini Bottom (Spongebob Squarepants). After playing a custom map based on that whole concept in Jedi Knight 2. It would be really cool to see that in Quake III. When you get the chance of course. I liked the funny things in this map and the Bikini Bottom map I was talking about had a similar kind of amusing parts to the map. Just a suggestion I really do think ought to be considered. I'm not demanding anything, but if it is possible, awesome.

leeTJanissary: No Harry Potter models that I know of. With the next Harry Potter movie coming out in a month, maybe someone will build one.
Wolf13: Some time ago, {DEMO}LITION said he had be thinking of making a Hogwarts map. I suggested that he try a Diagon Alley map. The twisty tunnels under Gringots Bank would make a challenging 3D maze. I don't have much free time these days, so I'm hoping someone else will go for it.

The Rocket Launcher is in the Slytherins commons room. It takes a daring leap to get ther.
The Mirror of Erised is where Dumbledor put it. Remember the path to the mirror starts with a jump down a trap door.

Yeah there is like only one tree and 3 Statues, but I won't give everything away. Awesome map man! Piano is cool, but you really could have done better with the Chamber of Secrets. I was expecting a boss enemy there. Instead, A Q3 face that shoots plasma at you. BTW what was this talk about a giant squid?! Anyway. The effects with the windows was intriguing. One thing that REALLY Disappointed me was- No Defence against the Dark Arts Classroom! I was looking forward to it. Oh well. Anyway 10/10

How many total secrets are in the map? I could only find the BGF room and the portal shown in the camera room, but I cant find the entrance to Hogsmeade. E-mail secrets here->( <a href="mailto:ErasureMode@msn.com">ErasureMode@msn.com</a> )

Giant squid? LOL, careful {DEMO}LITION, people will think you're really one of the Creevey brothers! Seriously, I was considering building the lake, but the compiler was starting to complain about too much stuff in the level, so I settled for an image of a lake in the skybox. Oh, and look in chapter 21 of book 4 to find out what the secret entrance to the kitchen looks like.
Enjoy ! ;-)

:O house-elves kitchen :O I don't think I found that! I better get to it. And I went to find the places shown in the divination class immeadiately after I saw then. Proffessor Trelawney's (if I spelt that right) mystical seeings came in handy for once.
There is a major problem though; where the hell is the lake?! You could have included the lake with the giant squid in it (which would have to be interactive of course). It would be nice if you released a new version of the map with more things added :D

BTW, I've been wondering if people are finding all the secrets. I implemented the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets more like the book, rather than the movie. Anybody find it? Anyone find the house-elves kitchen? Also, the remote-viewing stations in Prof Trelawney's divination classroom show many of the secret areas (but not how to find them). Anyone realize there's more to find, after looking in the remote-viewing stations?
Inquiring minds want to know!!!
And for anyone trying to decide whether to download this level:
Please understand that the emphasis is on EXPLORATION rather than PLAYABILITY.
(The bots cannot lead you to the secrets. They don't know about them!)

technoshaman: Yes, there are several things I had to change. For instance, Griffyndor commons was on the 7th floor, but that would mean an impossibly large level. Also, book 1 described separate stairways leading to the boys and girls dorms from the commons. But I chose to do it like the movie, because I thought it more architectually interesting. Recently I read in book 5 that the girls stairs had I neat trap I could have implemented. Oh well, I'm not about to remake the level now! Regarding the 3rd floor, it was only
ON THE RIGHT that was off limits.

I notice a few other minor things, that the stair way is kinda messed up. You have the the only way to go to Grifyondor dorms to the 3 floor. That is wrong since the floor was off limits in the first book/film so why have the dorms be through the 3rd floor? Plus you are missing a moving stair to the 3rd floor. Guess that is the only way to do moving floors is by the sliding movements huh.

Tig and {DEMO}LITION: OK, I think I caused some confusion by the way I implemented vis-blocking. I used some 1-way transparent windows in the castle. (I wanted glowing windows to be seen from the outside, but I thought it would be
cool to be able to look out the windows from inside... It seemed like a good idea at the time.) The existence of the windows prevents vis-blocking in that area. So the giant window at the bottom of the big stairwell meant no vis-blocking for most of the west building. The east building is a bit better, but the windows in the hospital and Dumbledor's office prevent vis-blocking for those rooms.
If I'm every crazy enough to make such a large level again, I'll just use fogged-over windows. Sorry for the confusion. <:-)

Areaportals must not touch more than one area once I believe, so if your areaportals did touch more than one area once then they will not work. I make an areaportal so that it is exactly the same size as the func_door brush(es) I have used, then make it thinner than the visible sides of the func_door brushes when they are closed (you have to draw them closed in radiant). I'd look at a tutorial if you are not 100% sure how they work.

Comic: I had a second look after I put the review up. I'm guessing that aeraportals could have been used incorrectly.
I run a script to compile levels, so I don't know which GtkRadiant menu option is it the best one for a final compile. From my script its (vis) this option;
$Q3MAP -vis -fs_basepath "$BASEPATH" "$MAPPATH$1.map"
If you stand outside and use r_showtris 1, you will see that you can see a lot of the inside of the buildings - this is what made me think it was not a full vis. For a test (if you have the time) remove the areaportals, compile, and see what the results are like. I believe areaportals are only good for 'corridor' like sections where there is no other way into a section expect through another areaportal.

David: Glad to hear you enjoy the level. So, what is your favorite hiding place?
Tig: I had tried "r_showtris 1", and thought it was verifying that vis-blocking was working (when all the doors were closed in the east building). What was it you were seeing? (BTW, I chose "BSP -meta -vis -light -super 2" from the GTLRadiant BSP menu. I thought that was a full vis compile. No?

I think that the Hogwarts level is surprising because there are lots of secret areas to discover. There are also many advantages against other players. And there is also funny areas like the owels. Since this is a pretty big level, there are lots of places to hide in. I say this level is pretty good and everybody should try it (especially if you're a kid like me).

Bulma: Run into Zonko's, and jump just after entering the door.
technoshaman: Yeah, I decided to abreviate some things, like the potions challenge... the map was getting way too big. Diagon Alley could be a level by itself, with an expansive underground area under Gringott's bank!

Ok I downloaded this map see how good it was. To my surprise I was impressed with the lay out and the teleporters in the right place. There some this that can be improved. The main (dinning area) hall should be longer cause in books and the movie the main hall a long. The area of the mirror, you are missing one challenge, Snape's potions. What I see is have a wall 4-6 potions (color coded)and when you fire the right one, the wall or a door will open up.
To bad you do not have Diagon Ally that would be a cool area with the bank and the Nocturne Ally. I see having a special portal that gose to area wich will be secret.
