One of my favourites map !! I love the assymetrical design, the wintersports atmosphere...
There is many path to attack and retreat, and when play with the "Alternative fire" mod, its just fun fun fun...
The bots play well, but are not very inventive.

The author's name should start with a lower case S so this map is on the list of maps he released.

hey Mitchell, glad you liked the map, did you download it from here? cuz i released a version too soon and found out there were some terrain errors, so i released a revised map that is available here. make sure the filename has a _V3 at the end. if thats the file you have, then im not sure what the problem is.....

glad you liked it..email me with more details of your problem if ya want!

ColdWarCTF is an absolutely beautiful map with functional gameplay. Strategy is a must here compared to other CTFs. Weapon/Ammo placement is the only significant weakness.

Tx hannibal...was hoping to get a "hardcore" voice in here, seeing as I don't really count myself :-0

If you play even remotely serious CTF matches, you'll know that this type of asymmetry DOES create an imbalance...end of story...the map isn't played. Next case. For just gunnin' n' funnin', this map is an intresting place to play a little CTF. Could certainly be popular on some public servers, sure. I just always evaluate a CTF map as to whether or not it could be played in competitive circles...since that's what I do. This map doesn't fit that 'type', that doesn't mean it sucks overall...no way, Sedric put a lot of work into this and he should be congratulated for creating a thoughtful, believable CTF environment that can create some fun moments. But if you want to create a CTF map that will likely have some longevity, great playability, and depth, you need to beta test it with hard-core CTF players...there is just no getting around it.

Plaztik: Wheter you were talking to me or not, I have nothing against non-symmetrical maps in general. They can be really fun if done right. For a casual game of Q3CTF this map would be fine, great even, but it's way too unbalanced for league play or even for serious non-clan gamers.

I didn't say "Its not worth downloading" or "non-symmetrical maps should rot in hell", I just pointed out a few problems resulting from the layout. But hey, you're free to draw your own conclusions.

it´s quite okay, the none symmetrical layout should be no problem for anyone really !!

if only the terrain would be much bigger... this would make much for fun then already done.

You asked a question, and, I overlooked it, as far as regular, the main problem would be for me it's assymetricality. The other, probably more important thing is the size of the map compared to id's vanilla q3a ctf maps. I think you would need teams of at least 4, and preferably more.

Still jhad a great time on the "terrafest" maps we played the other night (TA Version, I guess).

i liked it. it seems hard to creat a totally balanced ctf map with different bases. but the theme and architecture were pretty cool IMHO. ill give it a 7

Visually the map is excellent, it feels like a secret base of an evil mastermind from a James Bond movie, the architecture, terrain and beautiful skybox work together very well.

I haven´t yet played it much, so can´t say much about the balance. It´s a big challenge to create asymmetric balanced CTF levels, and we just have a hand full of them for Q3. So it´s well worth to grap this map!

That's a defensive advantage, you can't give red an offensive advantage and hope that things balance out. octovus makes a damn good point about the ammo boxes too. pretty map, lacking gameply. good for a pub with a 12 man cess. wish it could have been approached more seriously. the ctf community is a lot more forgiving with custom maps unlike dm and tdm... who knows it could have been part of a league rotation. :/

i had to play a little with the spawn points so the bots would leave the bases. perticularly(sp?) the blue base.

and i thought it was a huge advantage for the blue team to be able to see attacks comming from the flag room, so i made the red base a little harder to attack. who knows maybe it is a little too hard.....oh well

also, there is a TEAM ARENA version also in the map queue. this one is only for vanilla q3

thanks alot everyone!

This is an excellent TA map (might be a diff versuion). Had a lot of fun playing this one, and had planned on addeing it onto my server rotation b4, I lost my DSL line.

Hardcore 8 from me.

If you placed even amounts of spawn points on the two side routes (shorter one currently with red, longer one currently with blue) - it'd be great. But it's your vision and it's cool nonetheless :-)
