Got the chance to play this map on FragLove. (I actually suggested it to be added, hehe) While I didn`t play all four arenas yet, I did play Flat Ground and Quiet Times.

Flat Ground is a lot more fun than it first seems, you really have to play it online to appreciate it. Think of the Amphitheatre, but the lava teleports you rather than killing you. (And also looking so much better than that visual failure) The rocks break up the "flatness" and encourage defensive gameplay. The teleporting from the lava is very useful and balanced by the fact that you can easily get shot in the back. A much more strategic arena than it first appears.

Quiet Times has got to be one of the most tactical maps I've ever played. You really need to take advantage of your environment here, or you're fodder for snipers. (and indeed I swallowed quite a few slugs) That fountain, the plants - anything to obscure the vision of the attacker when the mountains are not available to you. While most maps usually do have obstacles such as this, it's done a lot more subtly and tastefully as the elements used for cover from fire aren't your typical columns or crates but actual, environmental objects. This is not seen in many other maps. Plus the aesthetics are amazing - I think the Japanese garden style was pulled off much more cleanly than Japanese Castles (q3wcp1). Only real nitpick was the different textures between the dirt, grass, and mountains not smoothly making transitions, although PRI brush usage would've sent compile times skyrocketing - and from the looks of things they were bad enough. (3 days? Dang man!)

It`s a great package and I never thought I`d actually get to enjoy it online. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to see not only some works of art, but for those who have FragLove, to play a few rounds on it and appreciate the simplicity offered here. I might even make a DM version of Quiet Times with items and all if I get the time - seeing as the map source is available.

@SW12: Checked out the HUNT mod, kind of a cool mod. Fast and frantic. Reminded me of Serious Sam. The 'Escape from Hell' mode is interesting as the maps are made dynamically.

Anyway, this map will not work with the HUNT mod 'as is', due to the RA3 entities and a few other things, but it would not take much to make it work. You would need to link the areas with a few teleports, place a few spawn points and other 'items' so the mod 'knows' about the map - then compile it - which will take a little while (like over night maybe). As the map file is available, good luck!

If you do re-compile the map for the mod, let me know or send me a d/load link. Would be keen to check it out.

Okay. Thanks anyways. Basically what I was trying to do was play this map with the HUNT mod which is like a mod where you can fight monsters instead of bots, which spawn randomly around the map (usually where an item would). The problem was that no monsters spawned. I tried it in "save the universe" mode, but maybe it would work in "Escape from hell" mode. I don't know-but its worth a try.

@SW12: Do you mean with distinct different themed areas in the one map? If so, I only of RA3 maps like this.

If you take out the 'in one map' part, there are heaps, but I guess you already know that :]

To be honest, I have not played the HUNT mod. I'll need to check this out.

There are no missing textures. What sometimes happens is a 'different' map with an alphabetical name before 'tig_ra3' may have an error in a script file.

Any chance of a screenshot of the issue or the name of the missing textures (from the console)?

It is all one map and needs to be played with the RA3 mod. You need to select the map you want to play from a 'staging' area by walking into a teleporter.

Following the initial beta, this map has progressed to end.

Although I like the old clan map better. ;) No, not really, the new version is a lot better in every respect. All the arenas have a very professional feel to them, and make a very welcome change from the typical gothic look of vanilla Quake III maps. Personally, my favourite arenas are the space type tree type map (as you can probably guess, I can't remember the names of the arenas), and the clan map.

I strongly recommend all Rocket Arena 3 fans grab this map, all the levels are excellent and very involving (perhaps with the exception of the cave tourney map).

Defiantly a healthy 9 from me, the large file size is a small price to pay for the class in a .bsp file that comes in the pk3. And finally, I’m mentioned in the read me! Woo! Thanks Tig. You've really made my day.

Yep, I had a broken shader in a map called realmra3map1. It had also caused me some some grief by breaking some textures in my CPMA (weapons fire of all things). Can't wait to see your map now!

Great looks, and vast diversity in this release Tig. I especially liked the japanese garden (the terrain adds a lot flair to the map, in addition of adding that "real" touch)

It's not quite that extreme - the water texture is pretty delicate, even at picmip 3 it's smushed to the point of no animation, which makes it just a slight grey blend over the pond. Now that I know it's there I notice it, but before I was wondering if I had a missing texture.

I like water as a sound cue, and I'm guessing that's the real point of this anyway. :)

R3DFIV3{KEA}: I pretty sure you have either a damaged .shader in a differerent .pk3 or you have a beta version of tig_ra3 in your /baseq3 or /arena folders. Have a look for a tig_ra3 beta level first and delete it if you find one. If its a different .pk3 then it could be any number of .pk3's :[

Can anyone explain why I see a lot of missing textures, especially the sky when I have hi-quality sky off? And also, I have copied pretty much all my RA3 maps in my CPMA folder so I can play CA. Now why is it that when I select CA in the CPMA map menu I get no maps showing?

arQon: Try a team message when you here that water sound but do not see any water. I'm guessing its the "small pond" section and you have some setting (like r_picmap 9) which is not rendering the water.

At first glance, I thought the CA had no chance of actually working, but I was really surprised at how well it plays. It's not half as open or as simple as it looks, and while I generally like a lot more vert in CA maps, bottom line is, it works. One small thing: I get splashing sounds walking by one set of plants, but there's no water there.

Thought the 1v1's were interesting, and a VERY welcome change from the usual "here's a big open space to see who's got the lowest-ping LG" fillers.

WD Tig, looks great. Although it did in the betas, the box ca map developed quite well from what it first was. ;)

I did notice a little bit of zebra-ing on a couple of faces near the little waterfall bit in it tho, from far away in spectator mode, you know how they appear in a certain range and then disappear when you're closer, its only on two faces of the rock though. :)

I'll take screenshots and email them to you if you can't find them.

lurve the little spiderwebs and the plants look cool, I'm just downloading but did play the last beta version and noticed that the respawn when you drop into the lava in one arena which would probably have been better making the players die rather than respawn them cos of the oh lets just jump off the edge cos i will respawn type thing.

bots will suck in all ra3 maps until they have been remapped with bot entities, bots navigate the levels looking for weapons and armour, since there is neither in ra3 maps the bots will be pathetic.

the only way to play bots in an arena is when it has been optimised for bot play and ra3 supports them, as far as i know none of the ra3 maps have been mapped with bot play in mind but for real life players only.

anyways nice job Tig :), hope the water sounds arnt too loud in the final version :)

nitin: form what i understand (i could be wrong) but Crt is the only programmer for ra3, and he rarely has time to update ra3, but will not let anyone else take over the coding. so it is entirely posable for Crt to add bot support, but the question is, "Will he?"

if you wanna play the maps as SP maps, i think you can extract them from the PK3 and make a few arena files. RA3 maps aren't just one big map, its a bunch of maps and a script.

tigger_on, i didn't rename ur map, just ther .pk3 file, and thats all that needs rnaming, and in renaming all that happens is q3 loads ur shaders, which is a good thing

elvendawn: Delete 'realmra3map1' do NOT rename tig_ra3, there is nothing wrong with my map and renaming will not allow you to join online servers playing in pure mode. realmra3map1 is buggy, not my map. Get in touch with the author and hassle them to fix it :]

realmra3map1 has been "known bad" ever since shortly after its release (I kinda wonder why it's never been updated). Personally I've just gotten rid of it... reluctantly, because it has some cool parts, but I got tired of it causing problems.

alright, for my last post ( sorry if it looks like im spamming ) but i got a remidy for the texture conficts in tig_ra3 with realmra3map1. the easiest way to fix the problem is just rename tig_ra3.pk3 -> a_tig_ra3.pk3.

this is b/c unlike textures and the sort, q3, once it loads a shader it keeps it, and wont write over the shader if it loads a shader with the same name later. There is no conficts with realmra3map1 either. (hay tig, u might wanna metion this to everyone also, just for their infomation.)

Ok, i found the conficts with tig_ra3. realmra3map1 is causing all the missing textures and the black SS arena.

I am currently tring to figure out where exactly the confict is, to see if they can coinside together, if not, sorry tig but im gonna have to deal with missing textures cuz realmra3map1 is played quite often.

Map looks ok (guess we'll see more terrain type maps)... but worthless in a big RA3, CPMA game. Its pretty slow in areas with no one in it...8 or so people fighting and gag. Let me play it some more.

Doods CPMA is much better. Does and plays like RA3 but with cheat protection. Has offline bot support also.

Can play RA3 type game with CPMA ..plus TDM, DM in multi arenas. All Multiarena maps should have weapons in them now to play them with CPMA and other game types cpma supports, and to help bot movement. RA3maps work with CPMA. Info at http://www.planetquake.com/pur3maps for info on playing bots offline with RA3maps1 thru 8.

I'm not going into discussion about promode physics or not. I JUST say: If he wants to take a look to the map and he doesn't want to download 60 megas (ra3) he can see it with CPMA (1meg).

CPMA includes the gametype "clan arena", witch is THE SAME (just with cheat protection) as rocket arena.

Don't confuse CPMA with promode, they are different things.

CGS: If you have ANY tig_beta levels you will need to delete them - if you have something tig_ra3_betaX, just delete it. This is the only thing I can thing of. The level was tested on a number of PC before being released and none had missing textures. The only other thing may be a damaged .shader in a different .pk3 file - this is a bit of a problem and very little I can do about that one :[

Bomerlunder: Instead of RA3 you can download CPMA beta 3 ( http://www.promode.org/ ) witch has clan arena gametype with multiarena suport and it's less than 1 mega.

Nice looking map there Tig!

I have a few textures missing though, not sure if its just me or not.

On the first arena there a quite a few missing textures, on arena 2 i join the arena and everything is black i dont seem to move (maybe i am moving but its all black so it seems like im not)and the clan arena im missing textures too.

Anyone else or is it just me?
