V1979 Rep. 315
#16   13 Aug 2017
CZghost, yes, all a cheater has to do is to make a new *.pk3 and put a new shader into /scripts/newshader.shader.
Thus, I suggested then not to make maps with such variable key features as fog etc.

@V1979: You're right. But thankfully, there is solution: Pure server. If you set pure server, client compares server-side pk3 with self-side pk3 - and if it has different content, it won't connect you. Even small edit in shader may affect the validity of pk3, and thus it will consider client not pure. Period... The only thing it won't detect is patch pack, which adds or changes assets for the map (including shaders)...

Years ago I made such a suggestion (www.excessiveplus....nd-similar-maps ) :
I suggest using q3tourney5 and similar maps (with opaque fog) in singleplayer only, because it's too simple to cheat on this map with fog shader.Here is the original shader:

//Tim's fog for map tim_dm1
textures/sfx/fog_timdm1
{
surfaceparm trans
surfaceparm nonsolid
surfaceparm fog
surfaceparm nolightmap
//fogparms ( .615 .309 0 ) 1800
fogparms ( .615 .309 0 ) 616
}

And here is a modified one (for example):

//Tim's fog for map tim_dm1
textures/sfx/fog_timdm1
{
surfaceparm trans
surfaceparm nonsolid
surfaceparm fog
surfaceparm nolightmap
//fogparms ( .615 .309 0 ) 1800
fogparms ( .615 .309 0 ) 6160
}

After this modification the map looks like this - (V1979 - the original demo picture was lost)
A pk3 file with the modified shader is attached. (V1979 - you must be registered there to download this *.pk3, but it does really exist).

Very nice indeed. OK, as it's essentially a remake it's not going to get huge amounts for originality; but it plays very well, and like J2KoOl63 I actually find this more fun to play on than the original (which I've always felt was too small). Lot of fun with 3 players.

Ya it's good, and the jump from Quad to YA is great. What Q3T5 should have been originally.

Well, doesn't this look familiar? This has to be a remake of Q3Tourney5, and not a bad one. I actually enjoyed this one more than the original. Everything you know about Q3Tourney5 is here, but is much better.

9/10
