I have been designing levels for a few years now and have always wanted to get into Quake arena lvl design. I have designed for original Doom 95, Halo, Far Cry 4, and new DOOM on both console and PC. I have experience using unity and google sketchup. I pick up software fast so I was wounded if anyone can tell me what software and apps I will need to download in order to get started in mapping for Quake 3 arena/live?

Try GTK Radiant 1.6.5 icculus.org/gtkradiant/. I sort of struggled to learn how to use it, but a lot of stuff I needed to know that wasn't in the manual I looked up here:ws.q3df.org/level_design/. You could also try older versions of GTKRadiant robotrenegade.com/.../downloads.html if you want, but I use 1.6.6.

With GTKRadiant you not only can make maps for Quake 3, but also games like RTCW and Jedi Academy.

Hi,
I've made a few tutorial about Q3 lvl design. I'm using Quark. You can take a look here if you're curious:
