Locating asterisk number models in Quake3

In bsp files you'll notice alot of these, such as "model" "*8". These models being movable objects such as doors and plats. My question is how do you identify the location of these models from the bsp? In Quake1 using QuakeC you could access the vmins and vmaxs of these asterisk models I recall (but not the asterisk model number they are associated with.)
