According to developers, Quake Live will become a standalone game some time around the end of this year 2013. I like this, it was about time to leave the web-browser platform constraints behind; bad news for some of us is that they'll drop support for Linux and Mac. Oh well. Anyways, I stopped playing long ago because of the screwed-up tiering system in the game matching me up with highly skilled players while I was clearly NOT even near their level which ended up with me being killed seconds after spawning on any game. But that's another story...
Shame they're scrapping multiplatform support (which is strongly a part of id software's reputation) but that's expected to be coming from Zenimax(imizeprofitsandextinguishcompanies)
I stopped playing during Beta. The mandatory training level was functionally broken... didn't bother since, since it's the kind of bug a pre-Alpha should've caught.
