Not really sure what the last commenter was on about. The only Asian theming happening at all are the tapestries that have been placed around the level. I didn't find that it played all that well. (At least to my taste).

Quite the intriguing tourney map. I have been quite a fan of maps with an oriental feel to them, but sadly, there are many out there that aren't as good as this one. I especially find the teleporters very cool. Just the design alone made me keep it. An exquisite map, Hexadecimal. For those thinking of getting this map, I suggest playing it for a couple of rounds. For those looking away from it, try it just for the looks of it.

Like I said, the teleporters are the key to playing this level. As for all actions being very forseeable, not only do I think that's wrong, but I dont even know how you can come to such a conclusion. It's as unpredictable as any other 1on1 level. If you choose the teleporter option everytime, yes that's predictable. But that isn't anything you are being forced to do. You do have other options. If you know your opponent thinks you always teleport, advanced strategy would be to do something else.

I see your intention, but I disagree. The options are very limited for the player. The teleporters are the only way to change levels quickly, thus making all actions very forseeable and repetive. While I agree that this can be fun for a while, I don't see any advanced strategy in there.

Hahaha, there are some really funny comments in here. I appreciate all the feedback.. positive or negative, but I think most of the negative is centering around the gameflow. This map was not saved at the last minute by adding teleporters and if you're feeling trapped when you fall down it's because you are supposed to. Higher ground is what this map is all about and the teleporters are the key to getting higher ground. I wanted this map to seem simple at 1st glance but have potential for advanced strategy when people take a look at the whole picture. Combinations of teleports can get you anywhere in the map quickly. For example... If you want the lightning gun and you've fallen down, just go through the bouncepad teleporter, continue directly through the teleporter you're facing when you come out, then jump down to it. Rocket jumping is not required. Who has the higher ground can change that quickly, and that's what I wanted.

This map just plain sucks. Not only did the gameplay blow,I think it left a virus on my computer. Now, I can't even run Quake right. I think when I put this piece of shit map into my baseq3 dir, it made my Quake III exe so freaking deathly sick that it won't even run anymore. This map also caused a general protection fault in the following programs on my hard drive:

  1. Microsoft Actimates Barney
  1. Barbie Color Photo Shop
  1. Solitaire
  1. Internet Explorer 3.0
  1. Minesweeper
  1. Windows for Workgroups

Also when I placed the map into C:My DocumentsPicturesAdultXXX, all the girls in my porno pictures grew mustaches and became cross-eyed.

I think that maybe this wasn't such a good map. It made me want to gnaw on my ear.

Now this is one example of really BAD mapflow/balance. Only one and a half way to get on the upper floor? C'mon.

At first the "weird" jump-pad teleporter: I always thought teleporters were flow-cheaters. It seems that Hexadecimal didn't know how to lay out the map properly and had to add this jump-teleporter to save his map.

The "half" way: The normal teleporter does send you up, but usually, if you don't try hard, you fall back down. If he had made it somehow possible to get up in the ya-room, the map would be a LOT better.

This bad flow is why I found that most of the fights occured in the two corridors. Because you simply can not get on the upper floor.

Before somebody mentions rocket jumping: I know how to do it, I am actually pretty good at it,too, but rocket jumping should always only be an option for good players (e.g. shortcuts). The mapflow relies on rocket jumping and that's not a way a mapper should consider to build a map.

I always felt "trapped" when I fell down, and that is NOT a good sign.

I also felt, that rocket-jumping was risky, because of the small size, thus I wasn't using it that often.

Mainly this bad mapflow leads to a very repetive gameplay, because there are so few options for the player.

A 6 because of the awesome use of textures.

Interesting look... the gameplay however seems to be the same (small) pattern over and over.

I'm really starting to like this map. I thought it was a bit too cramped at first but after playing a few matches, it works. Kind of reminds me of the old Q1 feel actually. I'd say it's too small for anymore than 3 players though. 2 is definitely ideal.

The gameplay is there (especially considering how small it is) and the looks are excellent and unique. Good work.

Score: 8

P.S. I caught Doom camping the yellow armor a couple of times. What a cheap bastard. ;)

I like the purple / orange-yellow contrast. It feels like the author took q3tourney2 and twisted the layout around. The item placement is appropriate, considering there are not any better places to put the YA.

Ok level design. Texturing is a little TOO mixed and incoherant. Good first level. A 5.

Good bot play, great look. I liked the bounce pad teleporter but dont know if someone should respawn there, i got a couple telefrags. Also I would have liked to have another way of getting to the lg.

Bots do excellent. Tasteful look. Furius gameplay. This is what I'd call a very good map. By the way: this map is not too dark! The second 10 comes from me.
