The long version...
The Apple Business model is about as evil as it gets. Let me explain:
For Android, I can build an App on Linux, Windows and Apple computers. I can then place a link to that App anywhere (like in the post above) and anyone with an Android device can then download that App and use it. Some people may have to tick the box in Settings that says something like "Allow third party Apps".
For Apple / iOS I have to build on an Apple computer using the latest or almost latest version of the OS. I have to pay $99US a year. I have to keep paying $99US every year otherwise everyone who has downloaded (and in most cases) paid for the App I built, will have the App "disabled" (Apple switches off Apps remotely). I have to register as a "Business" (or at the very least as a "Sole Trader") in Australia and have to register for GST (Goods and Services Tax) in Australia - even if I give the App away for free, even through the Australian Gov. has told Apple they do not require people to register for GST or as a Business. This also means my tax returns go from "simple" to complex each year. Then the App must be release through the Apple iTunes Store. (There are also a heap of developer crap they make you do as well).
On top of all that Apple keep changing and releasing new iOS versions with major changes about every 6 months. This in turns leads to people being forced to upgrade about every 12 to 18 months because the new iOS version will not work on old hardware, but Apple makes it really hard to build for older iOS versions. Android phones that are running an old version (say version 2.2) can still run most Android Apps.
So, I guess the answer is no iOS version. I would also strongly encourage you to sell your iOS device and get a user friendly, Android device :]
