This is an original Capture the Flag map for Quake 3.
Level Design Comments:
My design criteria was to create a large map with lots of different levels and areas to keep
the map interesting with new things to learn over time. I created this map originally as a DM level (only the center area was in the original).
The 2 flag areas were added later when it was converted to a CTF map. The original name of the file
was "PeaceFrog" and was entered in a mapping competition on a popular Q3 website (where it received a good review). Every attempt was made to keep the r_speeds as low as possible
to keep gameplay fast considering the size of the map (so there is not as much "eye candy" as a smaller map...the excellent Mr. Clean texture set though keeps the map interesting).
The speeds average in the 3000-5000 range with the worst views in the 6000-7000 range (in very few spots).
This is about average versus the Id CTF maps and the original Threewave maps (which I used as a benchmark).
Extract the kctf3 zip file into your baseq3 folder (which is a sub-folder of Quake III Areana...usually located at c:\program files\quake III areana\).
This will install all the proper files, etc. into their proper directories.
To Start the Game:
Start Quake 3. For single player or to start a server, go to the in-game
Capture the Flag menu of Q3 as you normally would and select "kctf3"
(in single player this is accessed through the skirmish button).
This game has full bot support. The bot play is surprisingly good for such a large
level however, this level was designed for multi-player/internet use.
This level was created with the excellent tool Q3Radiant. It took about a weekend to build the basic structure
and several months to flesh it out (most of the time involved revisions to improve gameplay). There was about 30 hours of testing before
this was released. The models used in the level came from those supplied with Q3Radiant. There are no custom sounds or textures.
The final compile took about 20 minutes (full vis -light extra) on a P4 1.5 gig with 256 megs of RAM.
Controlling the center area is the key to this map. Good railers in the high area will stop most flag carrier's
attempts to cross the region. In addition, this is also where most of the good powerups are located.
There are some nice escape tricks you can use to shorten the map as you get used to the layout.
The top rooms (off the 2nd floor main concorse) are grenade traps activated by shooting the grenade icon buttons outside the doors.
Tje flight powerup is included to access the BFG which is located at the top od the pryamid.

Texures: Mr. CleaN for Eyptian style textures...awesome stuff!
