Grindill 2.0 is an amazing map by the habitually excellent mapper, Quaker-X. It is a modified version of Grindill, which Quaker-X released in the 2003 Computer Game Conference Level Design Competition (the map won the competition). The atmosphere of the map is brilliant, with a theme of an industrial mountainside base.
The textures used in the map are outstanding, especially the waterfall texture and the tremendous skybox, and textures have been implemented fabulously into the amazing map structure. Lighting in the map is top-notch, with excellent shadows (likely to have been made using a low lightmap scale of around 0.25) including detailed shadows made by grates located through out the map.
Game play is superb, with some originality by the use of tubes that link different levels of the map. There are also some well-placed hangovers, that give a nice sorry to drop in on you game play. I found that either death matches or team death matches work tremendously on this map, providing there are not less than four players. Item placement fits the style and structure of the map fantastically, and greatly improves the fun elements of the map. Bots played nicely on the map (though they seemed to prefer the higher levels of the map), but I can't imagine how much better it would be to play with human opponents on the map.
If I were you, I'd download this map immediately and play it; you can not fully appreciate this map unless you're inside it. I'm keeping it on my hard drive for a long time.
