I don't mean to sound rude, but - haven't we already seen enough gothic or glorified looking arenas that may have an ambient look, but is something we've seen over and over? Would it hurt to try something new?

On this though, this map looked as if it was easy as anything. And six months ago, I was in the process of making a map a LOT more complicated and interesting than this. Before it somehow got deleted. And worse yet, I can't get past baby steps because I am having issues with trying to open textures. I've tried all I could, but to no avail. I need help with that.

Once again, I like that people are trying new things, but if you are going to do THAT, then at least do an adequate job at it.

Perhaps make them stand out more, like if it has been in the queue for over a month, have some bold, red text saying "Over a month old" or something. Or perhaps even locking newer arenas from being reviewed until the older ones are, though that may be going too far.

Yes, I completely agree with both fKd and EmeraldTiger. Visuals are very important and I never said anything about the look of the maps, just that the maps do play as expected for the mod and that they are not test maps.

From memory, the maps from Ney sat on the map queue from about 1 year or more before reviews where submitted. Because of this, I don't think they prevented other maps from being reviewed. But yes, ..::LvL does have an issue with getting maps from the queue to the front page. It really could be quicker. Suggestions are welcome.

I have to agree. While gameplay is more important than visuals; putting effort into both things shows you are willing to take the time and effort to make it play and look good. Most industries today are looking for people who can make maps that play great but also provide plenty of eye-candy.

@Tig - While these maps may be fun for whoever plays this mod. dont ya think with only monthly updates that people who actually put time and effort into creating maps get a bit of a raw deal having to wait months to see their map get a review? these could not take more than 5 mins to make. tops

@All: Believe it or not you guys, I actually tried this on vanilla Q3 and it wasn't all that bad on FFA with 7 bots.

Of course I preffered the other version with the water, but I liked slipping and sliding around the tube. But yeah, I don't play the Excessive+ mod unless I'm really, really bored.

@Tig: Well they certainly seem the same (big tubes with weapons).

@Satan Fang: But the maps are very playable, you just need to have the mod and the right server settings. Check out the video for TSU-DROUND by Panda (Pantsu) - lvlworld.com/review.php

You can not do that in a standard set-up. Don't forget also that Q3A is over 10 years old - there are lots of different ways people play Q3A now.

I don't have the Excessive Mod set-up correctly to do videos for all the maps, but I'm happy to create a video for a map if someone sends me a demo file.

@PaN61 (and all others): BTW, I think this discussion is a good one. It also helps others to understand just why these unusual maps are on ..::LvL - please, feel welcome to keep the discussion going.

Wait, that was a typo. I meant But WHY DO THEY MAKE THEM unplayable. It was a typo, just like you spelled my name wrong.

@Tig

Alright, why do they make them this way? All the Excessive Plus maps I've seen seem like test maps to me.

Satan Fang, I wasn't saying what you know or don't know about map making.

But why are they unplayable? Do they do this on purpose, or do they know nothing about mapping?

This comment just made me state that you know nothing about mapping because you were saying why they weren't playable, do they do this on purpose or they no absolutely nothing about mapping.

I'm was sure you would have found out the answer in the FAQ - How To Play A Map Section or the GTK/q3 Radiant Manual before you started making maps, but it clearly doesn't state it in the comment.

I'm sorry that the my comment was a misunderstanding to you and because of your comment: if you were smart as well you'd not say what I know and what I don't, I might as well not try to help you in the first place because you're saying I'm dumb. One more thing, in your comment, you weren't stating why the maps suck, but why they are unplayable and I clearly answered that question.

(P.S. Sorry for this rant comment Tigger-oN)

@Satan Fang: Not at all, in fact they are fun maps made for small LANs, by people that play the Excessive Plus mod. Just because you do not like, or understand them does not make the maps 'test maps', but shows that you have not understood what the level author was trying to do, and did achieve.

@PaN61: And if you were smart as well you'd not say what I know and what I don't. I was asking why all the Excessive Plus maps suck, they are like test maps made from noobs.

Satang Fang, Map Makers do know a fair bit about mapping and it's essential to know the basics before you start making maps. They are unplayable either because they are made for a different mod (The Excessive Plus Mod for example with this map), they are made for Vanilla Quake 3 or Quake 3: Team Arena. It's just depends what mod or game you have installed.

By your comment below, it seems that you don't know anything about map making and like you have started GTK or q3 Radiant for the first time. So before you start accusing other players and map makers, it would be better if you start researching information about map making first.
