Johnny Law is a great mapper and it shows in this map. It looks very nice and it has plently of originiality. My only complaint is that I really don't like CTF maps that take a while to learn the layout. Maybe, it's just me, but I don't like to be confused and this map can be confusing.

Well done. It took me a while to find my way out of the blue base. The base areas themselves are designed very well, with those platforms up above which can be used for either defense or offense. Layout, texturing, and styling are solid. The only problem with good CTF maps like this is that I never see them running on any servers- and playing with the bots just isn't the same as playing real multiplayer.

I give this one a 9

6 outta 10. Bang the drum. Lighting could have been more distinct in each of the bases. But then I think, "A good CTF player knows where he's at!" But then, just make it a blue tint and a red tint and even the dumb asses in the world are happy. Strategically good map. I don't like how you can't jump down the hole easily from the "center area" going into the lower portion of the base just after the 100 health pit. It would be nicer to be able to go up down up down down up up etc. you get the point. OH and the Frames Per Second...turn off some of the bells and only stick to the whistles. Whiny babies. Do you really need ejecting brass and marks on the walls?! heehee. Oh, and just in case the author is still "hovering over this string"....grapple works VERY nice with this level contrary to what you put in your informative readme.txt. Oh, and quit beating yourself up about the bots, they're stoopid anyway. I use em all the time and Nightmare! just gets boring sometimes. (Especially with T.E.C. and grapple)

I was expecting much more from this map after reading all the great comments, but it didn't do much for me, sorry =( I think it was mostly the lighting's fault. The architecture also seems a bit strange, but of course that's just my opinion. I have to say though, for a first map it's excellent!

No framerate problems whatsoever on my (high-end) machine. Runs faster than some of the id maps.

Forget about playing the bots, play thi in an instagib sever and you'll see what it was destined for. Shredco has it in their rotation at 206.181.233.72:27960 but I think you need all their custom maps to play the server. By the way, I LOVE the hidden room in each base. That was a nice touch.

I don't even play CTF too often but this map totally kicks ass, I have fun just running around in it pointlessly.

Excellent map Johnny.

The first CTF map I've come across that is has a truly original structure.

Thanks for all the hard work.

I don't get the bad FPS from ppls comment on this list... I've played this map on my PC with 5 bots and myself with no prob (P3-450 128MB RAM, V3) and have played online with about 6ppl on a team, w/2 bots per team. Sounds to me you guys have a performance problem (hehe), maybe you should see a doc! While this may not be the BEST visual CTF map released (not bad though), I think the gameplay rocks.

The fact that bots have problems on this map (both in performance and in not using the whole map well) is a genuine flaw, yup. If you are a big fan of botmatches then it's probably not for you. I wish it didn't have to be that way.

I just have to respond to that hint brushes comment though... I will match my hint brush kung-fu against yours any time. :-) Much of the map's design time went into very aggressive reduction of r_speeds through hint and detail brush usage, and in online play it should provide fps comparable to or better than most other CTF maps. If you really want to understand why bots chew up the CPU check out the news items at the map's website (www.clanplaid.net/quake/jlctf1/). It has nothing to do with hint brushes, and little to do with map design other than in the very large sense of "don't design a map anything like this; make it like something else entirely". (Which could be said for the bot pathing problems as well.) This time out, that wasn't an option I chose to explore :-) because this was the map I wanted to make.

All righty, y'all don't need the map author "hovering" over the comments thread so that's it from me. In a nutshell: Glad some of you like it, sorry for the bot problems. Hope to meet some of you online playing this map.

Good idea for a ctf map; absolutely horrid framerates with bots - get to the top overlooking the base and my

PII450/128 Ram drops to 9 frames;

it would be to the benefit of the map maker to look at other praised maps and shoot for similar fps on their systems. Maps like Japanese Chastles the Lunarian run and look like dreams. Has nothing to do with texture compression and everything to do with map design and proper use of hint brushes.

Liked the outside base;

won't accept the framerate

No clue dude... sorry. I have a PIII-733 but only a TNT2, and I get a minimum of 40 FPS with all the bells and whistles at 800x600. Maybe it's something about S3TC? ... I never tested turning that on.

Unless you're talking about playing with a lot of bots... a lot of bots would do some nasty judo on midrange CPUs (see the map's web site for a few details about that). Shouldn't be that way in online play tho.

The bots are laughing at me... laughing, I tell you! The horror, the horror.

I do apologize for their numbskulledness (or mine, depending on how you look at it). If you'd like to play against human-type peoples, check out Stoogeville CTF (198.147.221.120). Busy server, also has Japanese Castles in rotation. I've also got the map on kitty1's CTF server (see kitty1.stanford.edu/), and I noticed that there's a server in LvL's list that's running it in a DM rotation -- it will be interesting to see if they can pack enough players in there. :-)

Very cool map.

Only nitpicks: The bot unintelligence (but you warned me in the readme). This map would rock on a LAN.

Keep up the good work.
