I love egyption themed maps especially DeFrag ones. This is a very cool DeFrag based map. I like the texture use and brushwork :).

papri-K - my feelings on the lava chambers too! They're obviously not supposed to be extremely useful...anyways. The map is very nice feeling. It gives almost a play climber or jungle gym atmosphere, but stays withing the Q3 universe; that's hard to do. The feel did flow from room to room, though there were some texturing issues. Bouncepads also disrupted the atmosphere a bit. Gameplay was pretty good, and I have to disagree with PI's useless comment (unless he only meant the lava chambers, in which case...well, I've already said). Remember this is a 2nd map guys! 8 out of 10.

Hi all, thanx again for ALL the critics, they really help me!

PI, I know that part of the lava chambers are useless, but i think they give that area a special feeling. I thought they would add to the maps atmosphere, rather than being "useful" for the gameplay.

Ok THX again!

Actually, I did play a slightly different version (see Tig's post); the newer version is slightly better, but most of the wording still applies. There are areas of the level that are incredibly strong and areas that are incredibly weak or useless (like the lava chambers.)

hey PI--thanks for the rant; this is a rather backhanded review though, as if it really pains you to say anything good about it. And "worthless?" But I haven't seen the vers you apparently saw.

Papri-K---

I liked this one a lot---good job making each room unique while blending each seamlessly into the overall theme of the map. Lots of good detailing & little touches of entropy, and for me the gameplay was excellent; the whole map got used; good, varied vertical elements in each room, & the bot didn't just dash for the teleporters. 8-) The lava windows & curved surfaces is a neat trick & looks great. Tourney fans: grab this one now.

"Good map; I won't tell you anything I possibly think could be a problem because I am too lazy to provide useful information, but for some reason I will take the time to try to bother people without using a shred of common sense."

My reviews are not intended to be plushy commentary to make everyone feel good about themselves. I try to point out the strengths and the key problems in the map for all types of fans, and I do know my analysis will help out the level designers make better decisions about layout and item placement (if nothing else) in their future work.

I contribute for the sake of three types of people:

  1. The level designers who typically don't get quality advice regarding gameplay.

  1. Help the competitive players sort through levels so they don't have to do nearly as much work as they used to do.

  1. Give the rest of the players a glimpse of where levels fit into the gaming world and what serious players identify as important while maintaining a level of credibility by telling the non-competitive players whether they will like the map.

I respect what level designers do, and it is why I spend time reviewing these levels (and of course, not for pay). If people can't accept criticism, that is their problem, but I am here for the people that are willing to take some heat and be better for it.

Finally, as a ladder admin, I can tell you that people around here are not impressed by nonsense posts, so if something you are going to say isn't going to help out people, you better not say it.

Thanks for enduring the rant. =)

But half of the map is worthless, like the worthless picky reviewer.

Well Done for a second map!!!

Keep up the great work!!!

I think the map is awesome. I only tested it in cpma, so I don't know how it performs in vq3. I also use vertex, so there were no dark hiding spots as mentioned in the review. The textures are pretty awesome too! I'd rate the map a 9.5/10

PS (keep up the great work)

Hi all, well I have to say that the map was updated after the review was submitted, now the lava problem is not there, and the grenade launcher is accesible via teleport. Also added some small brushes that let you make some cool jumps, and bots get the upper YA. ;)

Thanks a lot StormShadow!

Well that sound was put there intentionally, so that the opponent hears you screaming when you want to "abuse" and cross from one side of the walls to the other one. But ok, the sound repeats if you stay just over that wall.

I noticed a wierd sound glitch in this map. If you jump up on the YA ledge, turn left, and jump on top of the wall between YA ledge and the lava thingy below, you get a repeating sound (at least i did). I can take a screenshot if anyone cant find it :D

Other than that, and a few minor texturing errors, i enjoyed this map. Plenty of neat trick jumps very good game flow. Its true that one side of the map is a bit item heavy, but it didnt affect the gameplay too much (against bots anyway). Fun map, gave it an 8!
