A complex series of short connecting corridors between open areas. The texture set is very consistent throughout the level, maybe a little too consistent. I could have had less of the yellow & black stripes. The map feels quite big; its not exactly quiet with 3 but 4 is definitely better. I'm not a big fan of power-ups, but they work well in this map to make the gameflow faster. Weapon and item placement are excellent.

This is clearly a map to have on your harddrive. A great map for 4 to 5 player games.

5 years later and this is still one of the best FFA maps around. Sure, most of us seasoned players play tourney, TDM, or CTF...but jesus christ on a bike...good FFA maps are actually hard to find. This is easily one of the best. A real shame that Vondur didn't make many maps for Q3...he is the man. :)

Only problem with this map is that he could have used a bit more variety in the texturing from one area to the next to make it easier to know where you are at all times without having to think about it. There are times when you spawn and don't know exactly where you are until you start running. Texture variety can cure that. He's a UT player though so we'll have to forgive him for that. :p

Very good layout though. Very fun games with only three players online (especially three players that have gotten some time in on it and know the layout very well). Highest number of people I've played on it was 4 and that was starting to get a bit crowded. Anything more than that would probably feel congested.

I'm giving it a 9 for the layout and I love maps with good vertical action.

I really admire this map. Great flow and wonderful overlooks make this a fun map. It is a great example of complexity made simple.

Also, I found the architecture was awesome and the texturing simple but effective. I'm okay with the fact that the author had a style in mind and ran with it throughout. Most authors can't seem to come up with a distinctive style like this. Many will think that having a few curves in their map is impressive enough. But ususally the maps just end up looking very mushy architecturally. This level, on the other hand, is very well realized. The forms, scales, lines and planar relationships are all quite interesting.

Nice map! I've just had a quick game, and, as already stated a number of times by others here, the flow and gameplay are great, from what I can see.

I don't feel that the action is fast enough with only four players, though. I would recommend a few more players, because although the map isn't huge, I found myself running around with some time between each encounter. But as soon as the number of people increased, the action became fast and furious. Note: This isn't really a problem with the map, so the score won't be lower because of that.

Basically, it's a great map. Also, I was surprised to see Fingers' textures in there - always a good thing :-)

Off-topic-mode:
Certain people here who hate Q3 and just hang around here to spread crap - I feel ashamed to be an UT fan.

And yeah, I am a fan of both UT and Q3. Q3 gives me the ultimate deathmatch experience, while UT gives me more diversity/modes out of the box. Both are rated 10/10 in my book.

Well this map gets 8.5 outa 10 rounded up to a 9 from me. It seems as if I forgot to comment on this map when I downloaded it while ago, but here goes. My first impression was great. I spawned into a simply textured and designed room which still looked really nice and fit into what Q3 is and is meant to be, a great looking/playing game. Really all the placement of weapons/armor and even health seemed jut about right, I had seen screenies of Nemisis Online at www.planetquake.com/vondur/ and was eagerly awaiting its release. All I can tell you was I was not disappointed, if one thing the bots occasionally got stuck but it was only minor compared to what is happening in many custom Q3 maps.

Happy Fraggin! Octovus

A small question: What's with the vertex lighting thing? It makes any level look like they're made out of lightbulbs; the only thing that matches this ugliness woulbe Q1 with Fullbright on !!! Excuse me while I lose my breakfast. My advice to those who use vertex lighting? UPGRADE THAT DAMN 'PUTER !!!

Well, anything that Vondur does is cool. I love the map (and the texturing). I almost felt like scrapping my RA3 map after I saw Nemesis =)

I'd say the gameplay is above the standard id maps, and the looks are on par.. that outside area is fantastic and it would've been nice to see a little more of it around the place.

This one's a keeper.

To quote a great man: "yeah baby, wickeeeeed!" ;)

Now this map owns. It really owns. The only things that are stopping me from giving it a ten are that green haze in vertex lighting (it _is_ annoying), and the fact that even at hardcore level, the bots seemed to spend a lot of time in one area. Not always, but often. That's the only bad points I can think of.

Ikka's textures are as wonderful as always, as is Vondurs' mapping - texturing and item placement is top-notch. This one has serious flow ppl, and I know even after just three games (albiet long and solid ffa's), this thing grew on me in no time. The fps stayed high even on my humble voodoo2.

I'm tempted to say this is at least on par (certainly gameplay-wise) with the iD levels. So just get this map for gods sake, I garuantee it'll never leave yer hdd. 9/10

A very solid map with quite the Q2 feel. It does look better than if it were running in Q2's engine though.

I'm studying the architecture as we speak.

I'd give it a 9, except for 2 things...

1. It reminds me of a Q2 map, so much. Albiet a *GREAT* Q2 map, but a Q2 map non-the-less.

2. If you play in VERTEX lighting mode, there's this NASTY green haze over the entire level. I personally don't play maps without the LIGHTMAPs, but *some people* do and think that the level looked ugly until they turned on the LIGHTMAPS.

Overall, glad to see something that wasn't a cathedral...

8.5 out of 10.

Don't fret MogWaEE... it's not so much a feud as just the standard method of communicating with Shambler.

As for the map, I've only played it a bit, so unlike some (large white furry) people, I don't think I'm going to give a verdict on it yet. Nice look tho... and with Vondur's track record I expect good things.

well, I would give you a medal but I don't have one to give you and... no, wait, I wouldn't give you a medal.

Moving on. Great map Vondur, I really like the style - esp that glassy bit with th rocks outside that Shambler was on about, looked totally cool. I can't understand why people keep moaning about Q2 styles in maps. I mean, ffs, who give a flying shit if it has a style reminisent(sic?) of Q2 as long as it plays good.

Admittedly, I haven't played the map but I did look around it and thought it looked sweet :)

-than

ps. admittedly I don't play much Q3 anyway.

pps. admittedly I play a lot of Counter-Strike

ppps. admittedly I'm sure Shambler is going to really insult me now.

pppps. I hope I haven't been mis-spelling admittedly for the past four attempts.

One of the basic requirements of complaining about anything Shambler does is that you should be prepared to SUCK HIS DICK UNTIL YOU CHOKE.

Let's say, hypothetically, that I considered such comments worth a reply....if that was so, I would say something like: "I still appreciate good map design even if I don't like the base game". Gosh that is so fucking simple I deserve a medal.

It seems like one of the basic requirements for a good review would be that you not LOATHE the game in question. That first post was from Shambler, am I right? Why do you keep doing this?

This isn't that big of a map. I had plenty of action with only 3 bots, as I prefer to slink around anyway. The structures are definately reminescent of q2, but the gameplay is just fantastic. I really liked the attention to sounds here too...are mappers finally catching on and doing ambient sounds?

The sky doesn't move? Np. I've got the new 5.08's anyway and the sky is butt ugly. Why not a patch/fix to turn off the sky and leave it black instead of white? THat would be much better.

Anyway, the atmosphere here is great, the weapons well laid out, and the structures very nice indeed. Dig the window view to the outside, nice.

Thumbs up.

Well Vondur persuaded me to have a look at this, and fool that I am, I did just that. Only had a look at it though, I can't bring myself to play the game :P.

Another very cool map from Vondur. He is really showing himself to be one of the finest Q3A talents (okay IMHO that is a bit of an insult!!) for solid, well-proportioned, 3D design and layout. Fresh textures in this, kinda reminds me of a Strafin map. I guess the complex texture scheme is a matter of taste, and although they don't get me orgasmic, I like the look in many areas. Architecture is solid, and the main arena is impressive, my favourite bit was the YA area with the rocks outside. In fact my main criticism was that that area looked so funky (kinda like some UT maps), that I *really* wanted to see more rocks and interesting sections (textures apart, the corridors and rooms elsewhere can be a bit bland). Also, the slime is a bit underused, just doesn't do much. Weapons layout and balance seems good, especially for FFA. I would have prefered, say, 2 LGs, RGs (either preferable) instead of 2 RLS, just to make it more funky. Finally - big map - I'd like to see Vondy do a duel map next =).
