I have great memories about playing this map and now I recover it for my next LAN party with my fragging friends.
Great job Priv

Cool map here. for the longest time I couldn't figure out how to play it because it didn't appear on the menu, but now I've tried it. Oh and I nearly fell off the edge because the one jump pad wasn't even a jump pad. I beat the trick! I think it deserves a 7.

@ #32 Anonymous: Thank you for your hint! Just retourned from visiting this amazing map....first thought: where is the railgun
by the way: in the readme it says"MapTitle : sky" so i already should have known...
also by reading previous comments
the link to the Patch Release has been updated too - thank you! - but i think there are so many maps in my baseq3 that not all of them will appear in the skirmish menu...

This map really looks great!
  • but i cannot load it :(
Quake (Q3 1.32c) says /Can't find maps/skylancer.bsp so i checked by /dir maps and it doesn't show up there even though i can see it in my baseq3 and i downloaded the patch(lvl_skylancer.zip) from the author's site and put the lvl_skylancer.pk3 in my baseq3.
Never had this problem with any map so if someone could help it would be really nice.

Great map, original ideas. I agree with the previous comments about the potential for more action below decks, and a CTF ver would be cool (though I'm not much into CTF); you could call it "Facing Zeppelins" or something. A great map (though the Flight powerup makes for some easy railkills, and meeting an opponent in midair is fun for those "Humiliation" kills!) and it makes a nice change from all those space maps that all seem to look the same!

Nice idea Priv! keep up the good

work. Down with the gothic maps! :) I think that

another blimp would make this a level worth playing over and over. A CTF re-mix is a good idea too!

Great idea and it's been put into play quite well (IMO).. I agree and suport those comments from EvilMustache and Nicholas.

Again great and novel effort.

Well certainly 10 out of 10 for lateral thinking! This looks very different, and it plays pretty good on my system ( PIII 600, 256Mb RAM, 64Mb GeForce 2 GTS ) with no real slowdown probs.

EvilMustache is right - a huge CTF remake of this would be awesome!

The RRROOOAAARRR verdict: 9/10

Fun map with a unique and polished look. In other ways it's fairly unpolished but it was worth the download (something that usually isn't true for maps that tend to leave out basic things like .arena files).

I hope that Priv keeps at it and gets more of the "niggly details" locked down in his next release. This one suffered from a few things that could have been easily fixed: the overly large and square clipping around the zep bodies, the lack of a nodrop brush on the "floor", and the fact that you can't shoot through the lower rigging of the large zep are IMO the major problems, as well as of course the missing .arena file and the other things pointed out below.

The bots actually weren't as bad as I feared they would be, altho they did suffer from gauntletitis.

If you do want to revisit this map and work it into a CTF map like EM mentioned -- cool idea -- then definitely fix up these problems and think about to restricting the map to just one railgun, in the center of the map.

This is definately a map that get 10 stars for being different. The only complain I have is the lighting.

Glad to see some imagination for once and for all. Some mappers have had it, but alas they are lost in the "too wierd to play" pile. This is exactly what producers are looking for!

Sys1: You can't launch it because it's missing an ARENA file. You could try extracing an arena file from another pk3 file, renaming it to sky.arena, editing it to apply to this map, then add it to skylancer.pk3. When you add it, it must have the path "scripts\". Uh, BTW, a pk3 file is really just a zip file. You can use a utility like WinZip or PowerArchiver.

Really needs a few things worked on, much of what Nicholas said, but also it needs better clipping, some of the balloons aren't clipped at all while others are clipped with just a square block, not very good when using flight.

I love the color scheme and the design (even without strong game play, this WHOOPS the UT Viking ship HARD). I wish there were more "in the boat" action, which has me lusting after a HUGE ctf remake. Imagine two towering zeppelins face to face with a tiny fleet of little zeppelins serving as the route between. I'm sorry, I'm still giddy. What a cool map. Too bad the gameplay is so back and forth.

As a side note, though I love q3a, q2 still has to be my favorite. Loved the super shot gun, and I MISS those blue rail-trails… After admiting my preference for q2, I can't help but feel a little dirty.

Interesting and fun idea that could have used a beta session. The middle bounce pads just lob you back and forth and would benefit from redirection. One of the four launch pads doesn't work and if did leads to nowhere. This could be by design , as a trap perhaps, and maybe you're supposed to blunder in the heat of battle. The propeller fan shoud be death instead of a kicker. I think a flag or two flapping would give an atmosphere of flight as right now you seen to be floating. I had to load it through the console but would prefer to see the pic in map selection. If it would were touched up I personally would rate it 8.5. As is I give it a 6. Priv, I like the originality and hope to see an update. :)
